Terms & Conditions
- The client and counsellor agree to meet for the purposes of counselling, meeting for one-hourly sessions. The counselling process will be reviewed every six sessions to ensure it is focussed on the areas the client wishes to explore.
- All information shared during counselling will be kept confidential. The counsellor undertakes regular Supervision in which they may discuss the work done with the client, but they will not reveal any personal information. If, as the result of the dialogue, the counsellor has reason to believe that the client, or someone else, is at risk of harm, or the client discloses terrorist or criminal activities, the counsellor will contact the client’s GP or another appropriate authority. In usual instances, the counsellor will discuss this with the client, but in extreme circumstances this may not be possible.
- The counsellor keeps minimal notes as a record of the counselling. These are kept for three years in line with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) policy. These contain no names or identifiable information.
- The client consents to the counsellor holding personal information such as telephone number, email address etc for the purposes of providing the counselling service. The counsellor processing this information is necessary for the performance of the counselling agreement. All information is stored in compliance with UK GDPR legislation. In line with UK GDPR legislation, the client has the right to access, rectify, erase or restrict the processing of their data. See Privacy Statement for more details.
- The cost of each session is £50 and this is to be paid directly to the counsellor’s bank account unless other arrangements have been confirmed. This must be paid in advance of the session, or the session will not go ahead, unless the counsellor has been informed in advance and agrees to a delay in payment.
- The client may cancel their session at any time. However, cancellations within 24 hours of the session will still be charged except in the event of an emergency. In the event of the counsellor cancelling the session, there will be no charge, and any payments already made will be carried over to the next session. Missed sessions will be charged.
- Contact will be made by email or text message. The counsellor will not respond to messages on a Saturday or Sunday, but a cancellation made on these days will be respected as giving sufficient notice. Contact is limited to practical discussions about timing of sessions.
- The counsellor is a Registered Member of BACP and is committed to acting according to their Ethical Framework, which can be found at www.bacp.co.uk. If any difficulties arise in their relationship, the client and the counsellor commit to trying to resolve these between them. If a matter arose that they could not resolve themselves, the counsellor would refer the client to the BACP complaints webpage.
- In the event of the counsellor becoming seriously ill or dying, a nominated Clinical Trustee will contact the client to inform them. The Trustee will only access client contact details in this specific instance.
In-person Counselling
- Counselling sessions will take place at the counsellor’s office at 121 Giles Street, Edinburgh, EH6 6BZ.
Online Counselling
- The online platform Zoom will be used for counselling sessions. The counsellor will set up the sessions and inform the client by email. Neither party is to record the sessions, and no other parties are to be present during the sessions.
- In the event of internet failure or other technical problem, the counsellor will contact the client by telephone to make alternative arrangements.
